Wood for heddle making
Want to make a heddle but you don’t know where to get the wood? I’ve got you covered.
These slates are from my own stash and they are in the same format as the ones I use in my classes. The wood is radially split Swedish silver birch, and it is 100% processed by me in my studio (Apart from my father who felled the tree! Thanks dad!).
This wood is dry, so there’s no risk of it warping or cracking as it dries. I prefer to carve heddles from dry wood as the knife tends to stick a bit in fresh wood when one cuts open the slits, so dry wood is what I’m offering to you :) Fur further heddle carving instructions, please consider taking one of my classes or checking out my book “Simple weave“.
The wood might vary slightly in tone as seen in the image, and it might have a brown streak or two from insects who used to live in it. These are not cracks and do not weaken the wood.
The wooden slates measure 8 x 5 cm big, and they are between 3-4 mm thick. At this point I am only offering one size of slate and the price is specified for one slate.
This listing is for one (1) piece of wood.
