Heddle release: September 23, 2024
Well, I’m quite pleased to finally be able to offer you these heddles. This batch is a very mixed one and it has well-know designs that you will recognize like horses, people and houses, but there are also some more unusual shapes: I’m offering the floral heddles that went unsold at the summer exhibition at Hemslöjden i Skåne along with some token-like heddles with rising suns or stars; I have made this shape before but never offered it online.
All in all I’m offering a whopping 41 heddles in this set, and I think that’s some kind of record!
What wood? What paint?
These heddles have been made out of dry birch wood, split and processed by me, using handtools, in my workshop in rural Sweden. If you want to get some birch and try to make your own heddle I do offer that in my webshop too!
The heddles are painted with a thin coat of lins seed oil paint the allows the structure of the wood to peak through. I used Ottossons linseed oil artists paint, diluted with more oil. For the gold details I have used a gold pigment I found in my grandfathers craft stash, mixed with shellac. It’s probably not real gold, but it does glitter nicely!
Please be aware that size and scale is a fickle thing. None of these heddles are bigger than my hand with outstretched fingers, and many of them are smaller than that. Here’s the largest and the smallest heddle of the set to prove it :)
Every heddle in the gallery below has a measurement mentioned, so make sure you know how big a heddle is before deciding to purchase one.
This set consists of 41 heddles that will be released on Monday 23 september, 21.00 Swedish time. The heddles will be for sale in the webshop, not here on the blog.
