Heddle release: December 3, 2023
For this set, I have repeated the same shape over and over again. Something in it is interesting to me - How the slits fan out, the swoops and curves of the decorations on top, the rounded bottom - it’s just nice. These are like an evolution of the heddles I made for this years March release, but with elements of the house gables I’ve been making lately. There are only fifteen heddles in this set, and one of the reasons for that is that cutting slits that go in an angle against the grain of the wood is a lot tougher for the hands than it is to cut along the grain. These heddles are painted with homemade lins seed oil paint. I make it by mixing artists pigments with lins seed oil. I have painted these heddles in two coats of paint, the first one in Prussian blue with zinc and titanium white and the second with Prussian blue and some black.
All heddles have my name cipher on the bottom of the back side and they are are made out of Swedish Birch.
I don’t remember if I’ve said it about this shape before, but to me it looks almost like a religious token, a little amulet to be hung in one’s belt perhaps. A part of an imaginary folk costume. Or a key to a folky, futuristic machine… After making really descriptive heddle shapes for some years it’s been interesting to make more abstract shapes. These ones feels really traditional in it’s shape, but as all my heddles, the shape is not
This set consists of 15 heddles that will be released on December 3, 21.00 Swedish time. The heddles will be for sale in the webshop, not here on the blog.
