Heddle release: November 19, 2022

This year has been a busy one for me, with hand pain holding me back from carving as many heddles as I would have wanted to. It isn’t strange that this happened at all however; with the big amount of heddles I was churning out last winter something was bound to happen! Since about a month back I have been free from hand pain though, which feels pretty miraculous! That is also about the time when I realized that if I wanted to release heddles before Christmas I needed to get carving. Ever since last spring I have had this idea of making a version of the blue houses I was making back then, but with gold roofs, as a Christmas set. And now I have!

These heddles are made of birch and painted with lins seed oil mixed with blue pigment and shellac mixed with gold pigment. They are carved and painted in several stages, starting out with a base form and a coat of blue paint. Then I add the gold paint and last I cut out any windows or other decorations. The process is slow but very enjoyable! I don’t think the gold pigment is real gold, it’s something I found in my grandfathers pigment boxes and it wasn’t marked with anything else than “import“ so I guess that will have to remain a mystery.

This set is a mix of several themes, because I had a lot of inspiration knocking around and decided not to hold back when I got an idea. The result is that there are a bunch of houses, a bunch of small flower pendants and one horse in the set! The flower pendants are quite small, about 4-6 cm in height, but they are all useable weaving tools as well as decorative things to hang around your neck. They all have sterling silver rings.

This set consists of 24 heddles that will be released on November 19’th, 21.00 Swedish time. The heddles will be for sale in the webshop, not here on the blog. Here is a preview for you guys, so you can have a look at the heddles before they hit the web shop. Click or tap the images to enhance them and see the heddle measurements! If you are buying heddles from me for the first time you might want to read this blog post in preparation.
