Heddle release: March 30, 2025
I have a new set of heddles ready for release and this one is a mix of houses that I worked on over Christmas and ladies I have made this spring. It’s a good mix of smaller, less elaborate work and bigger pieces that are more heavily detailed. It’s quite a small group of 15 heddles, but there’s a lot going on in it!
In this set I have made some of my well-known shapes, like the little ladies, and I have also taken the freedom to explore chip carving as surface decoration a bit. It has been a pure delight and I’m very excited to explore the possibilities of the technique further! Tap the images to see them enhanced ;) For full-size images, prices and measurements, scroll to the bottom of this blog post.
I will also be releasing two new items at the same time as the heddles!
First out, a box of wood. I have had requests for bigger/longer pieces of wood for heddle making since I started selling it and until now my response has been that I have no good way to organize that, but I’ve decided to try this: offering to stuff a box full of wood for you! Cut to length to fit the box, there will be some wider and some slimmer pieces, the contents of the boxes won’t be exactly alike and there will be no way for me to guarantee any width measurements, but I’ll promise it’ll be a good mix of slim and wide, and that pieces will be 15 cm long maximum. The price for a box will be 1500 SEK.
Also: Locally made drop spindles! I’m very excited about this! I finally found a local craftsman who could take an order for drop spindles in my preferred style: with a cutout head. These spindles are fairly lightweight, with a detachable whorl, and they are in the same style I have been spinning on since I was a kind and my grandmother taught me how to.
The cutout head makes the thread come off the heddle staff completely centered, which makes for longer, smoother rotations than if it’s finished with a metal hook.
These spindles are based on the ones that my grandfather made. They weigh 45 grammes and the material is local Swedish birch. They are made by Oscar Larsson, a young Swedish craftsman who has set up his workshop about 20 minutes drive from me and they are priced at 570 SEK. I hope to be able to offer them continuously but I have 50 of them available in this initial run.
This set consists of 15 heddles that will be released on March 30, 21.00 Swedish time. The heddles will be for sale in the webshop, not here on the blog. This is a preview for you guys, so you can have a look at the heddles before they hit the web shop. Click or tap the images to enhance them and see the heddle measurements! If you are buying heddles from me for the first time you might want to read this blog post in preparation.
Ps. When browsing this blog post on a mobile device the text with the measurement + price info does not appear automatically when you tap a picture to enhance it. After enhancing the picture, look at the bottom right hand corner of the screen where there is a small white dot. Tap that and the info will appear!
I forgot to add something on a comprehensible scale to the product images, sorry about that! When I realized I took these pictures with my hand so you get an idea of the scale of the heddles. Of course there are measurements in CM in the gallery below aswell!
