Heddle release: August 19’th, 2021

My August heddle release is all about the heddle girls! This summer i have been busy finishing my new book and I have not been able to spend as much time carving as I would have liked, but I did manage to sneak a couple of minutes here and there to sit down with a heddle and my knifes. This set consists of ten heddles and will be released on August 19’th, 21.00 Swedish time.

All heddles are made of birch wood this time. This summer’s work with refilling the firewood shed has offered plenty of opportunity to stash any pieces of wood that catches my eye. Since firewood is usually a treetrunk split in four quarters it is easy to see if the split surface is smooth and free from any knots, and these pieces I split into thinner slates and turn into heddles. But don’t worry - one piece of firewood can give me 12 heddles if Im lucky so my little production isn’t a threat to the family’s firewood supply :)

Some of the heddles have a rather low balance point, meaning that the holes are situated so low that the heddle might topple over when you weave with them. This problem is easily fixed though; the heddles work just as well upside down! This is actually a common practice when weaving with unevenly balanced heddles and I have written about it here.
